Pre-School & Kindergarten

In our full-day Junior and Senior Kindergarten Programme, your child receives individualized attention and interactive lessons in listening, speaking, math, reading, writing, science, technology, self and society. Class sizes average between 14 and 16 with one full-time teacher, a full-time assistant teacher and itinerant teachers for visual art, music and French.

Kindergarten students begin each day at 8 a.m. with a morning circle. Our students hear stories, listen to presentations by schoolmates and share thoughts on topics of interest.  The day follows with a blend of active exercises, guest speakers, language lessons, math and science activities.  As in all grades, our family-style hot lunches, supervised at each table by faculty members, is a time to learn table manners, share stories and meet children from other grades.

Junior School

At Canadian Independent College of Ghana, we offer a dynamic, nurturing and positive learning environment where your child’s curiosity is stimulated, leadership skills are cultivated, and fun-filled interactive learning is meaningful and focused. A low teacher-student ratio and small class sizes (approximately 12-20 students per class) provide an ideal environment for learning.

As your child moves through Grades 1 to 8, the emphasis is on building a foundation for lifelong learning and community service. Expectations for academic achievement are set high, yet balanced with a rich curriculum of competitive and recreational athletics, music and drama, visual arts and exciting excursions.

High School Programme

Canadian Independent College of Ghana continues to be organized around a complete trimester system whereby a student can accumulate 10 complete high school credits from the beginning of September to the end of June without attending summer school.

By the end of grade 10, students will have completed 16 of 18 compulsory courses required by the Ministry of Education for graduation purposes. These courses will be taught at a level that will enable students to achieve CANADIAN DIPLOMA standards as well as begin their preparation for the Advanced Placement exams in years three and four. Successful completion of these exams allows students to gain university credits concurrently with the completion of grade twelve credits.

AP means Advanced Placement. The AP Programme provides an opportunity for high school students to take College / University level courses while in high school. This exposure helps students build university level skills.   In many cases, students who achieve a level 4 on the AP examinations can earn university level course credit at most colleges and universities in the US, Canada and in 115 other countries.

AP helps students gain an edge in university preparation:

  • Get a head start on exactly the same material you will confront in University.
  • Improve your writing skills and sharpen your problem-solving techniques.
  • Develop the study habits necessary for tacking rigorous course work.
Canadian Independent College of Ghana will provide a variety of Programmes to interested students during the summer (July-August). The Programmes will engage and stimulate students in a safe and controlled environment. An enriched curriculum mixed with day and weekend trips will be provided to summer camp students from a multicultural background.

The focus for our Activity Programme will be directed towards activities that can be of lifelong value for our students. Leadership of self and others will be encouraged in all Programmes. Canadian Independent College of Ghana places such values on these complimentary skills and activities that each student will be tracked and encouraged to participate in as many as is reasonably possible.

Each student’s timetable has a set recreational time slot each day in addition to the mandatory physical education class. Each student will be required to pursue at least one activity per term. Canadian Independent College of Ghana places such value on these lifelong skills that we track each student and encourage them to participate in as many activities they can without compromising their academic focus.
